Who we are

Japan Insider is published by Sekai Studios Inc., a Tokyo-based company. Sekai Studios also operates JJ eSIM (travel connectivity) and Enishi (career services for foreign professionals in Japan). Our founder also co-founded Blackship Realty, a Tokyo real estate brokerage that operates Tokyo Portfolio. When any of these brands appear in our articles, we label them clearly.

How we make money

Through affiliate commissions (clearly disclosed), our own products (clearly labeled), and, in the future, sponsored placements (always marked “Sponsored”). We include competitors of our own products in our comparisons and link to them, including via affiliate links. An honest comparison that sometimes sends readers elsewhere is the only kind worth publishing.

How we test

Product recommendations are based on first-hand testing by people in Japan. For connectivity reviews we run standardized speed tests at multiple Tokyo locations and publish the methodology, test dates, and raw data. Every review states when it was last tested.

How we use AI

We use AI tools for research assistance and drafting. Every article is edited, fact-checked, and enriched with first-hand testing, original photography, and local knowledge by the named human author and our editorial team. All test results, photos, and recommendations are produced by humans in Japan.

Guides show a visible “Last updated” date. We re-verify high-traffic guides on a regular cycle and retire content we can no longer stand behind.
