Make Your Own KitKat In Tokyo – KitKat Chocolatory Shibuya

Japan has many fan favorites when it comes to snacks and souvenirs that tourists love to pack into their suitcases when it’s time to go home. Still, there’s probably one that stands above all others, and since you’ve seen the title, I’m talking about KitKats.

New KitKat Chocolatory In Shibuya’s Miyashita Park

So now to capitalize on the insatiable hunger of sweet-toothed Japanese and tourists alike, the company has now opened at Kit-Kat Chocolatory. Located in the new Miyashita Park Shopping Mall in Shibuya, here you’ll be able to purchase all sorts of unique KitKat flavors, as well as sign up for the build your own experience and create a truly unique souvenir.

My KitKat Workshop

You’ll want to come early and save a spot though as each group can only accommodate eight people and at the moment, it’s certainly a popular attraction. Once the session begins, you’ll be talking through each step by an in-house, master KitKat craftsperson, and then given a few minutes to follow along and complete each step.

Making My KitKat

Before you start making, you can choose from three types of chocolate: milk, bitter and ruby, as well as 17 different types of toppings, including pistachio, hazelnut, dried strawberries, and even beautiful edible flowers.

The first step of the making is to carefully slice your wafer into four equally sized sticks. Next, you’ll have to pour your liquid chocolate into the mold and give it a good bang to make sure all the air bubbles come out. You’ll then insert your wafers, press them into the mold and cement them in with chocolate. Lastly you need to chop up your ingredients and place them as you fancy into the mold.

After Making My KitKat

Once you’ve finished constructing your masterpiece, you’ll need to wait for around an hour while it chills in the freezer. Thankfully there is also a cafe where you can wait and grab a cup of coffee. Through the large windows, you’ll also be able to enjoy an up-close view of Tokyo’s most famous railway, The Yamanote Line. Interestingly, they also have a Kit-Kat Piano that is free for anyone to come and play, so if you’re lucky, you might enjoy your drink while being treated to a free performance.
